Employee Spotlight Series: Andrea Abreu

August 6, 2019, 6:00 am

GSSI’s Employee Spotlight is an interview series where we chat with fellow team members to get a glimpse into their careers and gain unique insight into our culture, history, and vision for the future.

This week our employee spotlight shines on Andrea, our Staff Accountant.

Andrea comes to us from Tyngsboro, Massachusetts and recently relocated to Nashua, New Hampshire. After completing her Associates degree in business, Andrea is currently pursuing a degree in finance at Southern New Hampshire University. In her free time, Andrea enjoys time with her family and two dogs, traveling, and snowmobiling in the winter months. Here, Lindsay Goyette, our Human Resource (HR) Specialists asks Andrea a few questions.

LG: Andrea, thanks for sitting down with me. This is our very first employee spotlight, so let’s start with an easy question- how long have you worked at GSSI?

AA: Yeah, of course! I’ve worked at GSSI since July of 2017. It is hard to believe that I have been here for 2 years already!

LG: It seems like just yesterday, even though it’s already been two years! How would you describe what the company was like when you started?

AA: When I first started at GSSI’s Nashua location, the company was just shy of 80 employees. I started out on the Sales and Marketing Team as a Customer Service Representative. I’ve had years of experience in customer service before I came to GSSI. Here though, the customer service role is the liaison between the customers and our operations team.

I really enjoyed being part of the customer service team because providing a top quality customer experience is really important and a big part of what makes GSSI successful. Our daily tasks included supporting the sales team, entering customer orders and interacting with the Operations Team to validate lead times, ship dates, and order changes. I loved this role because I got to interact with coworkers in all departments and many customers. This role gave me knowledge of how a manufacturing company operated and how amazing it was to see every employee work as a team.

LG: I see you’re leading me to the next question! You’re talking about your customer service role in the past tense. Can you let our readers in on what’s changed?

AA: (laughing) Guess I’m getting a little ahead of myself! After a year in Customer Service, I had an amazing opportunity to transition to the Finance Team as a Staff Accountant. GSSI was already helping me go back to school with the tuition reimbursement program. At the time, I was already enrolled in the Southern New Hampshire University Business School and was considering declaring a minor. For the past year, I’ve been working on my Business degree with a concentration in Accounting. After my Bachelors I plan on going for my Master’s since it is possible with GSSI’s help! My role now consists of handling Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Getting hands on accounting experience has been a tremendous help for continuing my degree. ‘Till this day, I love working at GSSI because it has a family-like culture. Everyone is very friendly, engaging, and supportive.

LG: As you know, there are a lot of employees who’ve worked for us for decades. To some, you may very well be a new-kid-on-the-block. But fresh eyes bring fresh perspectives. What would you say you’re most excited about at GSSI?

AA: I am very excited to see what the future holds for GSSI. In the two years I have been here, the company has grown so much. GSSI is always looking for ways to grow in the GPR industry and also give back to their employees which, in return, gives us an awesome work environment.

LG: I may be a little biased, but great answer! My last question is this, if you had one story to share that best represented your time at GSSI, what would it be?

AA: One story that I’d like to share was the experience I had volunteering at the Nashua Boys & Girls Club. A few of us employees volunteered to present to 20 students ranging from 14-18 years old. Every employee spoke about their job, how we were able to get to where we are today, and how much fun it was to work at GSSI. I loved being able to give back to the community and the students were so intrigued! Having GSSI be a part of these students lives by engaging with them was an experience I will never forget.
